Even though my due date wasn't until August 16, I had said all along that I was expecting him to come on the 9th, and he did. The 9th was a week early which is how early William arrived. And, it wasn't until that day I realized the date was 8/9/10. Now that will be easy to remember.
I started having some serious contractions on Sunday, August 8 but after getting up and moving around they subsided to about one every hour. Monday morning about 2 a.m. I woke up with some pretty strong contractions. I couldn't sleep so I got up and paced around the house letting William and Andy get some rest. I finally woke Andy up around 5:30 to let him know that it was the big day. We called the hospital and they told me (of course) to drink 32 oz of water and then call back. If it's false labor, drinking the water will stop or slow the contractions. If it's real labor (which mine was) it just makes them stronger! So, we got William dressed, drove him to school and then headed to the hospital. That was the longest drive of my life!
Once at the hospital they checked us in and I was already 4 centimeters dilated. My plan was to have a natural birth again so by 9 a.m. we were in our delivery room working through contractions. For some reason I think this delivery was harder than the first, but after a lot of hard work and the great support of Andy, we delivered Dylan at 1:53 p.m. Whew!
Mom was flying in on the 9th (I knew I should have had her arrive on the 8th!). She missed the delivery by about 5 hours. She came straight to the hospital and got to see Dylan. Unfortunately my grandmother's health in Indiana took a turn for the worse so after only two days mom had to fly back home. We missed her dearly!
Just out of the oven.

As much as I wanted to head home to be with William, it was so nice to have the help of the hospital staff and everything at an arms reach.

Of course this post has Star Wars and light sabers! This was William's gift from his little brother. Star Wars action figures.
