Our BIG Trip to the Redwoods

Well, we thought it was time to take William to the Redwoods. We visited the Redwoods in November 2005 and fell in love with the area - so much so we decided to move out of the desert to a place a lot more like the Redwoods. We also ended up with a little bean about 9 months later.

First of all, just let me say I saw this sight many times during the trip. When a three year old says he has to go, you don't take any chances.

We made it to the coast on Thanksgiving day and played on the beach for a while.

Then we did a warm-up hike.

William fell asleep on the last stretch to Eureka, CA holding a shell he found on the beach.

We were afraid we might have to eat at Denny's for Thanksgiving dinner, but thankfully I was able to make reservations at a restaurant in downtown Eureka a week earlier. It wasn't like mom's (or Grandma's or even mine for that matter), but it was still good! And, anything is better than Denny's.

William took some photos...

Again, not like mom's but still pretty tasty!

Friday morning we were ready for a longer hike. We did the 3.5 mile, Brown Creek, Rhododendron, South Fork loop in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.

Yeah, that's a big tree.

We only saw one banana slug this time. So big.

William and the bench.

William walked at least half the trail - if not more. Below he's catching a ride.

All done!

We finished off Friday with a trip to Lost Cost Brewery (family friendly restaurant), had a beer and played some video games.

Our last night on the road. William is getting use to this laying in bed watching TV stuff.

A very funny video of the boy driving. During this stretch he did pretty good. He drove in reverse most of the other time.
